The task was completed by 332 participants, yielding 1,819 answers produced after clicking on links to relevant entries. Warning notes were categorised in terms of their formatting features, but there were found to be inconsistencies in the way the dictionary associated different categories with different kinds of learner error. Participants judged warning notes with more visual enhancements to be more useful, but in the correction task the position of the warning notes also seemed to affect the degree to which the warnings were successfully applied. Different types of warning notes in learners’ dictionaries have not been examined previously in any depth, and the results suggest that some adjustments to formatting and placement might make them more effective.Conference Object The Minimum Variance Distortionless Response Beamformer for Damage Identification Using Modal Curvatures(Association of American Publishers, 2023) Eroğlu, Uğurcan; Pau, A.This study presents a damage identification procedure in beams based on the use of beamforming algorithms, which are mostly utilized in inverse problems of source identification and image reconstruction. We choose the modal curvatures as observed quantities and compare the performance of the Bartlett beamformer, minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) processor, and of a conventional objective function based on the modal curvatures. By means of a set of experiments, we show that the MVDR processor can overcome some of the difficulties encountered with other estimators, especially in cases of slight damage, or damage located between two sensors. © 2023, Association of American Publishers. However, there is a notable absence of empirical analyses regarding the perceptions of the genocide among the Turkish population. This study aims to fill this scholarly gap by exploring, for the first time, the perspectives of Turkish Jews. It analyses evidence collected from interviews conducted with 14 Turkish Jews, utilising Stanley Cohen's (2001) theoretical framework, which aids in delineating significant factors by a categorisation of types of acceptance and denial. The findings highlight a diversity of responses linked to political attitudes, which can be broadly categorised into Kayades and Avlaremoz mindsets. They also show that Turkish Jews' views on the Holocaust influence how they perceive the Armenian genocide. Additionally, the results indicate that Cohen's approach is useful in explaining non-denying responses. The key point for correct store location is profit approximation, which is highly dependent on population of the corresponding region, and hence, the volume of the residential area. Thus, estimating building volumes provides insight about the revenue if a new store is about to be opened there. Remote sensing through stereo/tri-stereo satellite images provides wide area coverage as well as adequate resolution for three dimensional reconstruction for volume estimation. We reconstruct 3D map of corresponding region with the help of semiglobal matching and mask R-CNN algorithms for this purpose. Using the existing store data, we construct models for estimating the revenue based on surrounding building volumes. In order to choose the right location, the suitable utility model, which calculates store revenues, shouldbe rigorously determined. Moreover, model parameters should be assessed as correctly as possible. The relationship between hematocrit (HCT) levels and TE occurrence among patients with PV from the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) was evaluated to replicate findings of the CYTO-PV trial with a real-world patient population. This retrospective study used VHA medical record and claims data from the first claim with a PV diagnosis (index) until death, disenrollment, or end of study, collected between October 1, 2005, and September 30, 2012. Patients were aged ? 18 years at index, had ? 2 claims for PV (ICD-9-CM code, 238.4) ? 30 days apart during the identification period, continuous health plan enrollment from 12 months pre-index until end of study, and ? 3 HCT measurements per year during follow-up. This analysis focused on patients with no pre-index TE, and with all HCT values either < 45% or ? 45% during the follow-up period. The difference in TE risk between HCT groups was assessed using unadjusted Cox regression models based on time to first TE. Patients (N = 213) were mean (SD) age 68.9 (11.5) years, 98.6% male, and 61.5% white. TE rates for patients with HCT values < 45% versus ? 45% were 40.3% and 54.2%, respectively. Among patients with ? 1 HCT before TE, TE risk hazard ratio was 1.61 (95% CI, 1.03–2.51; P = 0.036). Due to the fact that the distributions were non-normal, normalization algorithms were applied before the onset of clustering. After normalizing, K Means algorithm and Gaussian Mixture Models used for finding optimum cluster count. According to these clusters, walkers' consecutive months separated to follow-up their behavioral traits. These defects results in structural differences and large scattering mechanical properties such as density, damping and elasticity modulus. There are difficulties during the manufacturing of the composites from bio materials inherent to their nature. The major problems and restrictions encountered with the use of green luffa materials as reinforcement are studied in this study. First, the structural differences in the raw luffa plants are presented and the difficulties in their manufacturing are discussed. After that, the variations in measured modal parameters of luffa composites such as natural frequencies and loss factors and mechanical properties such as density and elasticity modulus are presented. Some solutions are provided to minimize the problems in manufacturing and identifying properties of luffa composites. The results show that the luffa composites can be produced with similar properties without any special selection of fibers to homogenize the batches of fibers for controlling the defects. As UEFA limited clubs’ expenses with their incomes, the transfer market took a hit. This paper demonstrates the impact of FFP on Russian Premier League teams’ transfer activity, examines how transfers’ demography and career profiles changed and investigates the changes in competitive balance after break-even. A regression discontinuity design is conducted in order to estimate the policy impact. The empirical results suggest that Russian clubs have been severely affected by break-even in terms of transfer expenditure and balance and started to transfer more U21 players and players from lesser leagues of the world. However, the common practice for such aprocess has been based on bounding box part detection.In this paper, we propose to adopt human semantic parsing which, due to its pixel-level accuracy and capabilityof modeling arbitrary contours, is naturally a better alternative. Our proposed SPReID integrates human semanticparsing in person re-identification and not only considerably outperforms its counter baseline, but achieves stateof-the-art performance. We also show that, by employinga simple yet effective training strategy, standard populardeep convolutional architectures such as Inception-V3 andResNet-152, with no modification, while operating solelyon full image, can dramatically outperform current stateof-the-art. The representational/computational capacity that underlies such spatiotemporally guided behaviors is not fully understood. To this end, we investigated whether mice make temporal inferences of novel locations based on previously learned spatiotemporal contingencies. We trained 18 C57BL/6J mice to anticipate reward after three different intervals at three different locations and tested their temporal expectations of a reward at five locations simultaneously, including two locations that were not previously associated with reward delivery but adjacent to the previously trained locations. If mice made spatiotemporal inferences, they were expected to interpolate between duration pairs associated with previously reinforced hoppers surrounding the novel hopper. We found that the maximal response rate at the novel locations indeed fell between the two intervals reinforced at the surrounding hoppers. Unfortunately, these texts are often dominated by informal writing styles and the language used in user generated content poses processing difficulties for natural language tools. Experienced performance drops and processing issues can be addressed either by adapting language tools to user generated content or by normalizing noisy texts before being processed. In this article, we propose a Turkish text normalizer that maps non-standard words to their appropriate standard forms using a graph-based methodology and a context-tailoring approach. Our normalizer benefits from both contextual and lexical similarities between normalization pairs as identified by a graph-based subnormalizer and a transformation-based subnormalizer. The performance of our normalizer is demonstrated on a tweet dataset in the most comprehensive intrinsic and extrinsic evaluations reported so far for Turkish. In this article, we present the first graph-based solution to Turkish text normalization with a novel context-tailoring approach, which advances the state-of-the-art results by outperforming other publicly available normalizers. For the first time in the literature, we measure the extent to which the accuracy of a Turkish language processing tool is affected by normalizing noisy texts before being processed. An analysis of these extrinsic evaluations that focus on more than one Turkish NLP task (i.e., part-of-speech tagger and dependency parser) reveals that Turkish language tools are not robust to noisy texts and a normalizer leads to remarkable performance improvements once used as a preprocessing tool in this morphologically-rich language.Article Citation - WoS: 11Citation - Scopus: 12Social Mindfulness Predicts Concern for Nature and Immigrants Across 36 Nations(Nature Portfolio, 2022) Peker, Müjde; Van Lange, Paul A. It is not yet clear whether and how these complex and more simple forms of cooperation relate. Prior work has found that countries with individuals who made more socially mindful choices were linked to a higher country environmental performance - a proxy for complex cooperation. Here we replicated this initial finding in 41 samples around the world, demonstrating the robustness of the association between social mindfulness and environmental performance, and substantially built on it to show this relationship extended to a wide range of complex cooperative indices, tied closely to many current societal issues. We found that greater social mindfulness expressed by an individual was related to living in countries with more social capital, more community participation and reduced prejudice towards immigrants. Here, we examined whether individual differences in infants' visual preferences for physically impossible events reflect an early form of curiosity, and asked whether caregivers' behaviors, parenting styles, and everyday routines relate to these differences. In Study 1, we presented infants (N = 47, M-age = 16.83 months, range = 10.29-24.59 months) with events that violated physical principles and closely matched possible events. We measured infants' everyday curiosity and related experiences (i.e., caregiver curiosity-promoting activities) through a newly developed curiosity scale, The Early Multidimensional Curiosity Scale (EMCS). Infants' looking preferences for physically impossible events were positively associated with their score on the EMCS, but not their temperament, vocabulary, or caregiver trait curiosity. In Study 2A, we set out to better understand the relation between the EMCS and infants' looking preferences for physically impossible events by assessing the underlying structure of the EMCS with a larger sample of children (N = 211, M-age = 47.63 months, range = 10.29-78.97 months). An exploratory factor analysis revealed that children's curiosity was comprised four factors: Social Curiosity, Broad Exploration, Persistence, and Information-Seeking. Relatedly, caregiver curiosity-promoting activities were composed of five factors: Flexible Problem-Solving, Cognitive Stimulation, Diverse Daily Activities, Child-Directed Play, and Awe-Inducing Activities. In Study 2B (N = 42 infants from Study 1), we examined which aspects of infant curiosity and caregiver behavior predicted infants' looking preferences using the factor structures of the EMCS. Findings revealed that infants' looking preferences were uniquely related to infants' Broad Exploration and caregivers' Awe-Inducing Activities (e.g., nature walks with infants, museum outings). These exploratory findings indicate that infants' visual preferences for physically impossible events may reflect an early form of curiosity, which is related to the curiosity-stimulating environments provided by caregivers. The objective of the present analysis was to describe the association between white blood cell (WBC) levels and occurrence of TEs among patients with PV from a large real-world population. Patients and Methods: The present retrospective analysis using Veterans Health Administration claims data (October 1, 2005, to September 30, 2012) evaluated adult patients assigned to 4 WBC count categories (WBC count < 7.0, 7.0-8.4, 8.5 to < 11.0, and ≥ 11.0 × 109/L) to compare the risk of TEs (reference, WBC count, < 7.0 × 109/L group). Analysis was performed using a Cox proportional hazards model, considering WBC status as a time-dependent covariate. Results: Of the 1565 patients with PV included in the present analysis, the WBC count was < 7.0 × 109/L for 428 (27.3%), 7.0 to 8.4 × 109/L for 375 (24.0%), 8.5 to < 11.0 × 109/L for 284 (18.1%), and ≥ 11.0 × 109/L for 478 (30.5%). Of the 1565 patients, 390 (24.9%) had experienced a TE during the study period. The mean follow-up ranged from 3.6 to 4.5 years. Compared with the reference group (WBC count < 7.0 ×109/L), the hazard ratio for TEs was 1.10 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.82-1.48; P = .5395), 1.47 (95% CI, 1.10-1.96; P = .0097), and 1.87 (95% CI, 1.44-2.43; P < .0001) for patients with a WBC count of 7.0 to 8.4, 8.5 to < 11.0, and ≥ 11.0 ×109/L, respectively. Conclusion: A positive, significant association between an increased WBC count of ≥ 8.5 ×109/L and the occurrence of TEs was observed in patients with PV. We sought to verify the apparent anxiety increases by looking for systematic changes in mean anxiety questionnaire scores from research publications. Methods : We analyzed all available mean State–Trait Anxiety Inventory scores published between 1970 and 2010. We collected 1703 samples, representing more than 205,000 participants from 57 nations. Results : Results showed a significant anxiety increase worldwide, but the pattern was less clear in many individual nations. Our analyses suggest that any increase in anxiety in the USA and Canada may be limited to students, anxiety has decreased in the UK, and has remained stable in Australia. Conclusions : Although anxiety may have increased worldwide, it might not be increasing as dramatically as previously thought, except in specific populations, such as North American students. Our results seem to contradict survey results from the USA and UK in particular. We do not claim that our results are more reliable than those of large population surveys. However, we do suggest that mental health surveys and other governmental sources of disorder prevalence data may be partially biased by changing attitudes toward mental health: if respondents are more aware and less ashamed of their anxiety, they are more likely to report it to survey takers. The most common one is choosing the correct GCC flags using heuristic algorithms. For the codes compiled with GCC, the selection of optimization flags directly affects the speed of the processing, however, choosing the right one among hundreds of markers during this process is a resource consuming problem. This article explains how to solve the GCC flag optimization problem with EAFT. Rather than other autotuner tools such as Opentuner, EAFT is an optimized tool for GCC marker selection. The first study involved two phases: question generation and refinement of the Thinking-about-Derivative Test (TDT). The second study included four phases as follows: test administration, generalizability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and subgroup validity analysis. Findings suggested that the 30-item multiple-choice TDT, which comprises 6 mathematical thinking aspects, enactive, iconic, algorithmic, algebraic, formal, and axiomatic thinking, demonstrates acceptable levels of reliability and validity. Followed by additional cross-validation studies, the TDT may be a useful tool for mathematics education researchers and mathematicians. Benefitting from instructional videos in learning processes empowers students’ academic outcomes. In spite of this, educators have no consensus on optimal video length. There is a need to cease speculations on optimal video length since most of them have been relying only on context-based tips or best practices. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to delve into the optimal video length discussion through the lens of perceived learning and flow experience. We employed repeated measure experimental design with randomization of treatment order for each participant. Twenty-eight university students from two big cities in Türkiye volunteered to participate in the study. Short, medium, and long videos were compared via Friedman test. Results of this study substantiated instructional video length does not seem to affect students’ perceived learning and their overall flow experience.
