Conference Object The Minimum Variance Distortionless Response Beamformer for Damage Identification Using Modal Curvatures(Association of American Publishers, 2023) Eroğlu, Uğurcan; Pau, A.This study presents a damage identification procedure in beams based on the use of beamforming algorithms, which are mostly utilized in inverse problems of source identification and image reconstruction. We choose the modal curvatures as observed quantities and compare the performance of the Bartlett beamformer, minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) processor, and of a conventional objective function based on the modal curvatures. By means of a set of experiments, we show that the MVDR processor can overcome some of the difficulties encountered with other estimators, especially in cases of slight damage, or damage located between two sensors. © 2023, Association of American Publishers. The obtained boron ore is presented to the utilization of many industrial branches such as insulation fiberglass and ceramic glazes, after washing, distribution, and classification according to the size but most of commercial applications of borates require the use of refined borates (Briggs in Kirk–Othmer encyclopedia of chemical technology, 2001). Approximately 4.2 million tons (2 million tons based on B2O3) of boron were produced globally in 2016. In worldwide B2O3-based boron production, Eti Maden (Turkey) ranks first with a 50% share, USA with 25%, and other countries with 25% are trailing Turkey (Bor Sector Report, Eti Mine, 2009). It is known that, during the production of boron containing chemicals, some of these are spreading to environment (Karahan et al. in J Colloid Interface Sci 293:36, 2006; Sahin in Desalination 143:35, 2002). Boron-containing wastes coming out of the exploitation facilities are generally solid and in small dimensions, and also in pulp state. The studies related with the evaluation of boron waste demonstrate that the most appropriate evaluation method for the boron waste is storing the waste without harming the environment or regaining the boron within the waste and making the remaining minerals including clay suitable for the utilization of appropriate sectors (Christogerou et al. in Ceram Int 35:447, 2009). Boron containing wastes generating from production facilities are suitable raw materials for appropriate sectors when environmental impacts are being taken into consideration, too. In this study, the effect of various amounts of boron waste added to the ceramic body on forming and firing processes have been analyzed. Academic achievement entails an environment where students exert self-discipline on classroom tasks. By using volitional strategies, learners can enhance engagement on academic tasks and complete assignments more efficiently. Undergraduate students enrolled in a teacher education programme at a higher education institution in Turkey participated in the research. Academic Volitional Strategies Inventory (AVSI), with alpha = .87 internal consistency, was applied to a group of students. The obtained data were explored through Pearson correlation. The results showed a statistically significant positive relationship between AVSI scores and academic achievements (r =.39, p=<.05). Early diagnosis of breast cancer has vital importance to prevent unexpected losses. A worldwide effort has been made to tackle early detection challenge. Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging is a superior imaging system that improves breast cancer diagnosis quality of physicians. Computer Aided Diagnosis systems are used as a complementary tool to improve breast cancer diagnosis. In last decades, various computer aided diagnosis systems have been proposed. However, the state-of-the-art deep learning-based approaches have started to overcome conventional medical image processing methods. In this study, we aimed to detect malignant breast lesions from open access dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imagery dataset using most recent YOLOv7 deep learning architecture. 2400 images have been used for training (80%) and testing (20%) of the network. The metrics calculated with the test dataset are 98.54%, 96.42% and 84.40% for mAP@0.50 IoU, mAP@0.75 IoU and mAP, respectively. The results show that YOLOv7 architecture is capable to detect malignant breast lesions from dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance images efficiently. © 2024 Author(s).Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Identification of Candidate Biomarkers and Pathways in Breast Cancer by Differential Network Analysis(Inderscience Publishers, 2020) Mendi, Onur; Karahoca, AdemBreast cancer is one of the most malignant cancers in women worldwide. The aim of the present study was to explore the underlying biological mechanisms of breast cancer. For this purpose, we propose a novel framework to reveal mechanisms that drive disease progression in breast cancer by combining prior knowledge in the literature with differential networking methodology. Our integration framework has resulted in the most important genes and interactions by allowing ranking the breast cancer-specific gene network. YY1, SMARCA5, FOXM1, STAT4 and PTTG1 were found to be the most important genes in breast cancer. Functional and pathway enrichment analyses identified numerous pathways that may play a critical role in disease progression. Considering the success of the comparison of the results with the literature, the systemic lupus erythematosus pathway may be a potential target of breast cancer.Conference Object Numerical Seismic Performance Investigation of Aac Infill Walls With Flat-Truss Bed-Joint Reinforcement(National Technical University of Athens, 2023) İlki, Alper; Halıcı, Ömer FarukAutoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) is a lightweight, energy-efficient and easy-to-transport material. As a result, AAC walls are becoming increasingly common as an infill solution in earthquake-prone areas such as Turkey, Italy, and Greece. Although infills are considered as secondary components in seismic design, they are extremely vulnerable to damage during earthquakes along both in-plane (IP) and out-of-plane (OOP) directions. Previous post-earthquake site examinations revealed that the failure of infill walls can result in serious injuries and casualties. Furthermore, huge economic losses as well as disruption in the functionality of essential buildings that are supposed to be operational after earthquakes may adversely affect the daily life in the earthquake-affected regions. One of the potential methods for increasing the seismic resilience of infill walls is use of bed-joint reinforcement between infill courses. In this paper, the general approaches in the establishment of the numerical finite element model for infill walls with and without bed-joint reinforcement are presented. The developed model was evaluated according to the previous full-scale experimental test results from strength and damage propagation point of view. The model will be used to investigate the response of infills with various bed-joint reinforcement amounts and height-to-length ratios to generalize the seismic performance improvements obtained by the use of flat-truss reinforcement both in the IP and OOP directions.Book Part The TRAIN Framework for AI-Assisted Development of Novice Accounting Instructors(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2025) Son-Turan, SemenNovice accounting instructors in higher education, and particularly in specialized fields like accounting, face significant challenges, including the need to frequently update curricula, balance theoretical and practical instruction, master new technologies, and integrate sustainability principles into their teaching. These demands are compounded by limited access to professional development resources and growing pressures for educational sustainability. This study evaluates the potential of AI chatbots to address these challenges by enhancing the capacity of junior instructors to create and deliver effective, sustainability-aligned course materials. It introduces the TRAIN framework (Technology-enhanced Responsible AI Integration for Novice Instructors), a structured model designed to align AI capabilities with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 4.c (Teacher Training). Through a systematic literature review (2019–2024), the research identifies key themes, including chatbot integration in education, AI’s capabilities and limitations, and its broader implications for accounting education. The findings demonstrate that AI chatbots can streamline content creation, provide personalized instructional support, and foster sustainable teaching practices. The experiments were performed using a rigid sphere located at tissue-like material (gelatin phantom) interfaces. An electromagnet was used to apply the desired dynamic force to the sphere and a high-speed camera was used to track the movement of the sphere. Using the experimentally measured response of the sphere and the dynamic response of the sphere predicted by a sophisticated analytical model of the sphere located at a medium interface, the shear modulus, density and damping of the tissue-mimicking material were determined. The procedure followed in this study successfully produced the shear modulus, density and viscous damping ratio of the 20% (and 30%) gelation phantom as 1320 Pa, 1040 kg/m3 and 0.12 (and 2580 Pa, 1180 kg/m3 and 0.2), respectively. As the sophisticated theoretical model that is valid for small and large sphere displacements includes many parameters for the system such as the mass and size of the sphere, the inertia force of the medium involved in motion and the radiation damping due to shear waves and the experimental setup is very straightforward, it is believed that the procedure proposed in this study can be widely exploited to identify accurate material viscoelastic properties in practice.Article Classifying the European Football Leagues by Using Balance-Performance Matrix(Pamukkale University, 2021) Özaydın, Selçuk MustafaEuropean football has transformed over the last two decades both financially and athletically. Although the aggregate revenue generated by the European football increases, some leagues grew richer than the others. The inequality in the distribution of revenue caused the talents to accumulate in the Big 5 leagues and left the others with no chance to compete. Especially after the introduction of Financial Fair Play, teams from other leagues became in desperate need of transfer income which accelerated the accumulation of talent. This paper proposes a matrix, the Balance-Performance Matrix, for classifying leagues with respect to their transfer balance and sportive performance. Basic oxygen furnace (BOF) steel slag is one of these industrial by-products. This paper provides a brief background on the characteristics of BOF steel slag and presents the results of a series of laboratory tests (grain-size analysis, maximum and minimum dry density, compaction, large-scale direct shear tests (LDS) and isotropically consolidated-drained triaxial compression (CID TX) performed on fresh and aged BOF steel slag generated from an Indiana steel plant. BOF steel slag samples from three different batches of production were tested, which allowed an evaluation of both aging processes and the effect of changes in gradation on the mechanical properties. The BOF steel slag tested in this study contained sand-size particles with varying percentages of gravel-and silt-size fractions. The moisture-density relationships for BOF steel slag were irregular with two peaks. Based on the LDS and CID TX test results, the BOF steel slag exhibited superior strength and stiffness characteristics than conventional geo-materials. The mechanical properties of fresh and aged BOF steel slag are discussed in the context of its use in geotechnical applications.Article Free(?) A single group pre- and post-test study was conducted with the participation of 17 mentees, novice middle school mathematics teachers. Participants' noticing skills were assessed through a whole-class teaching video shown to them before and after the intervention. The responses of the teachers to the video assessment were analyzed considering attending, interpreting and decision-making dimensions of noticing. In this paper, we propose various methods for pricing and capacity allocation. We consider three types of instances offered by the service provider; subscription, on-demand and spot instances. We introduce three allocation and pricing policies and propose different models. We simulate these models on a randomly generated dataset and evaluate the models for different capacities. However, the number of experimental studies investigating the seismic behavior of repaired RC members is insufficient, especially for structural members that have endured slight or moderate level damages. In this study, four identical large-scale code-conforming RC columns were tested under combined effects of axial load and reversed cyclic lateral displacements. The reference column was tested until failure, while the remaining three columns were first imposed to lateral displacements until the formation of damages at different levels, then repaired with structural repair mortar that contains recycled raw materials without removing axial load and tested again until failure. The primary objectives of the experimental program are to enhance the knowledge on the post-earthquake performance of damaged RC columns and to investigate the effects of repair applications after slight and moderate damage levels. This small amount of boron content reduces the austenite grain size (by preventing grain growth) and increases the matrix hardness through the precipitates formed.With the addition of boron, it is possible to obtain the desired hardness depth due to the cementation applied especially in gear parts. This result obtained in boron steels is similar to Cr, Mn, Mo, Ni, etc., which are used in conditions where boron is not used. In other words, the use of boron as a microalloying element also provides cost savings. Les parties sont libres d’organiser leurs pourparlers conventionnellement et s’imposer des devoirs contractuels même en période précontractuelle. Par convention précontractuelle nous entendons un acte bilatéral qui vise la conclusion du contrat négocié. Puisque le Code des Obligations turc ne consacre pas une section spécifique aux pourparlers les parties ont grand intérêt à organiser cette phase et définir les règles à suivre et leurs comportements réciproques. Les parties peuvent former des actes précontractuels sous des formes et avec des contenus très variés. Nous allons nous limiter aux actes bilatéraux conclus entre les parties puisque nous examinons les conventions préparatoires. Par conséquent, les actes unilatéraux tels que la lettre d’intention envoyée par l’une des parties avec l’intention de débuter les pourparlers ne seraient pas traités dans cet article. Ainsi nous envisageons une étude sur les conventions précontractuelles en tenant compte de leur effet obligatoire. Dans un premier temps, nous traiterons les conventions qu’on pourrait appeler les contrats préparatoires qui créent un effet obligatoire pour au moins une des parties, et ensuite nous examinerons les conventions munies d’un tel effet.
