School and community interventions should address the psychosocial needs of bilingual minority students.Abstract Background: Parental practices that support autonomy, provide structure, and foster warm relationships are associated with greater satisfaction of students' basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness. In minority educational contexts, however, students' psychological need satisfaction is also shaped by broader sociocultural conditions that may create additional pressures and sources of chronic stress. Within such environments, parental support may function as a protective factor that helps students cope with educational and cultural demands. Objective: The aim of this study was to explore how parental support contributes to the satisfaction of students' basic psychological needs within a minority educational context where students from the Greek minority attend a bilingual school operating within a Turkish educational framework. Methods: A qualitative design was employed using three focus groups conducted in a minority school located in Gökçeada, Türkiye: one with parents (N = 5), one with lower secondary school students (N = 6), and one with upper secondary school students (N = 6). Interview questions were developed on the basis of Basic Psychological Needs Theory. Data were analyzed thematically by five members of the research team. Results: Findings indicated that parental support influenced students' need satisfaction through practices related to autonomy (e.g., trust, space for mistakes), competence (e.g., encouragement, comparison), and relatedness (e.g., emotional presence, empathy). However, these practices were not experienced in a uniform way. Rather, their meaning and impact were shaped by contextual conditions associated with minority status, including bilingual educational demands, limited resources, and close-knit community dynamics. Conclusions: The study suggests that in minority school settings, parental support operates not simply as a general interpersonal resource but as a contextually mediated protective process. By showing how sociocultural and institutional conditions shape the enactment and experience of autonomy, competence, and relatedness, the findings extend existing BPNT research beyond majority settings and offer a more context-sensitive understanding of students' psychological need satisfaction.

    Psychological Intimate Partner Violence Across Identities: Preliminary Psychometrics of the Multidimensional Measure of Emotional Abuse-Short Form Among Heterosexual, Lesbian, and Bisexual Samples in Türkiye

    Psychological intimate partner violence (IPV) affects individuals across diverse sexual identities and is often reinforced by romantic myths. Despite its substantial mental health consequences, psychological IPV remains under-recognized and insufficiently researched. One barrier is the scarcity of brief, inclusive, and psychometrically sound tools for assessing psychological IPV across varied populations. To address this gap, the present study aimed to validate the short form of the Turkish version of the Multidimensional Measure of Emotional Abuse (MMEA-TR). This 16-item scale evaluates four subdimensions of psychological IPV (Restrictive Engulfment, Denigration, Hostile Withdrawal, and Dominance/Intimidation) while preserving the original multidimensional framework. Data were collected from four independent samples in T & uuml;rkiye: Bisexual individuals (n = 230, M = 22.88, SD = 4.49), predominantly heterosexual women (n = 237, M = 24.30, SD = 2.51), lesbian and bisexual women (n = 178, M = 29.06, SD = 7.81), and predominantly heterosexual men (n = 160, M = 24.49, SD = 2.54). Confirmatory factor analyses across samples supported the hypothesized four-factor model and demonstrated acceptable fit indices. Subscales showed significant intercorrelations and concurrent validity was supported by theoretically consistent associations with jealousy (Study 1), anxious attachment (Study 2), internalized heterosexism (Study 3), and fragile masculinity (Study 4). Internal consistency reliability ranged from acceptable to high across groups. Overall, findings provide initial evidence for the construct validity, concurrent validity, and reliability of the MMEA-TR short form. This study contributes a brief, inclusive, and psychometrically robust instrument for assessing psychological IPV in both heterosexual and sexual minority populations.

    Gender Differences in Cyber Dating Violence Among Adolescents and Young Adults: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

    Despite the growing body of research on cyber dating violence, a comprehensive understanding of gender differences in cyber-violent behaviors across developmental stages remains limited. The main purpose of this meta-analytic review was to estimate the direction and magnitude of gender differences in cyber dating violence perpetration and victimization by synthesizing results from various studies. The second purpose of this study was to examine the effect of potential moderators (i.e., continent, age, grade level, time frame, method of survey administration, the metric of the outcome, study design, publication status, and publication year) on these differences. Various databases were used to identify relevant studies, including PubMed, Web of Science (WoS), Scopus, PsycINFO, ERIC, and ProQuest. Eighty-one individual studies with a total sample of 70,233 participants, ranging in age from 10 to 30 years (M = 18.94), were included based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria in the present study. Most studies were conducted in North America and Europe with the largest proportions from the United States and Spain. Results indicated that there were no statistically significant gender differences (women vs. men; girls vs. boys) in perpetration and victimization of cyber dating violence. Moderator analyses showed that grade level and sample age were statistically significant moderators of gender differences in cyber dating violence victimization. However, other moderators (continent, time frame, method of survey administration, the metric of the outcome, study design, publication status, and publication year) were not statistically significant. This study contributes to understanding gender differences in cyber-violent behaviors during adolescence and emerging adulthood and highlights the importance of some moderators when developing targeted prevention and intervention strategies.

    The Shadows of Internalized Bisexual Myths: Jealousy and Psychological Intimate Partner Violence Perpetration Among Bisexual Plus Individuals in Turkiye

    Bisexual+ (bi+) individuals may face unique challenges stemming from the internalization of myths related to their sexual orientation. This internalization may make individuals more sensitive to perceived threats in their relationships, which can increase feelings of jealousy. In turn, internalized bisexual myths and heightened jealousy may contribute to the perpetration of psychological intimate partner violence (IPV) within bi+ relationships. Thus, in this study, we aimed to examine the parallel mediating roles of cognitive and emotional jealousy in the association between internalized bisexual myths and psychological IPV perpetration. A sample of 230 bi+ individuals from Türkiye completed the (Internalized) Bisexual Myths Scale, the Multidimensional Jealousy Scale, and the Multidimensional Measure of Emotional Abuse Short Form. Overall, 94.3% of bi+ individuals reported perpetrating at least one act of psychological IPV against their partners within the past 6 months. Results from the parallel mediation analyses revealed that both cognitive and emotional jealousy mediated the relationship between internalized bisexual myths and psychological IPV perpetration. These findings suggest that bi+ individuals who internalize bisexual myths and exhibit higher levels of emotional and cognitive jealousy may be more susceptible to perpetrating psychological IPV against their partners. This study underscores the need for further research to better understand psychological IPV perpetration among bi+ individuals, highlighting the value of qualitative and longitudinal methods for gaining deeper insights.

    Emotionally Tough, Sexting Rough: Relationship Between Callous Unemotional Traits and Aggravated Sexting in 11 Countries

    Background: Sexting is now widely acknowledged as a common sexual behavior among adolescents and young adults. However, the occurrence of abusive interactions, such as non-consensual sexting, warrants attention. Prevalence rates of non-consensual sexting vary between countries, influenced by gender and age. The present study examined the relationship between three facets of callous-unemotional (CU) traits (i.e., callousness, uncaring, and unemotional) and the sharing of non-consensual sexts across different relationship contexts (i.e., acquaintances, strangers, or partners). Method: Data were drawn from a cross-countries project encompassing 11 countries: Belgium, China, Czech Republic, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Poland, Russia, Turkey, Uganda, and the USA. The sample comprised 6093 young adults (3682 girls; 2401 boys), aged 13 to 30 (M = 20.35; SD = 3.63). Results: Results from a logistic mixed-model indicate that CU traits predict non-consensual sexting, with high callousness and uncaring, and low unemotional traits associated with non-consensual sexting involving partners and strangers. Younger individuals and women were more likely to engage in all forms of non-consensual sexting compared to older individuals and men. Conclusions: It is important to promote sexual education programs to increase emotional self-awareness and challenge gender stereotypes in order to reduce adverse outcomes associated with sexting.

    The Ill Fortune of Attachment Insecurity and Dyadic Distrust in Marital Satisfaction: a Dyadic Perspective in Turkish Couples

    Objective: The objective of the current study is to explore the actor, partner and mediating effects of dyadic trust in the relationship between insecure romantic attachment and marital satisfaction in a Turkish sample of heterosexual married couples.BackgroundAlthough the vital role of dyadic trust in a romantic relationship has been recognized for many years, the mediating role of dyadic trust in the relationship between insecure attachment and marital satisfaction has not been explored much in previous research.MethodThe sample comprised 174 married couples living in suburban areas in the central Anatolian region of T & uuml;rkiye. Couples were recruited through personal networks and online mailing lists of local governmental institutions. Two Actor-Partner Interdependence Mediation Model analyses were carried out to estimate mediation with dyadic data using MEDYAD.ResultsThe actor effects between insecure romantic attachment and marital satisfaction were found to be mediated by dyadic distrust. Moreover, two partner mediating effects were found significant. Husbands' anxious attachment predicted wives' dyadic distrust, which in turn predicted wives' marital dissatisfaction. Likewise, husbands' anxious attachment also predicted their own dyadic distrust, which in turn predicted their wives' marital dissatisfaction.ConclusionThe findings show that for insecurely attached individuals, dyadic trust has an important role in marital satisfaction and thus should be the central topic in couple counseling.

    Unheard Voices of Lgb People in Türkiye on Lgb-Specific Experiences of Intimate Partner Violence: a Qualitative Analysis

    Drawing upon in-depth, semistructured interviews with 26 LGB participants, we explored how LGB individuals experience IPV uniquely in Turkiye. Conducting thematic analysis, we generated four themes: (a) invalidation of sexual identity, (b) controlling sexuality and sexual behaviors, (c) disclosure of sexual orientation, and (d) binegativity. The analysis emphasizes LGB-specific power dynamics influencing IPV. A discussion is provided regarding the extent to which these four themes are specific to IPV in LGB relationships. Additionally, recommendations are offered to mental health professionals on tailoring their approaches and promoting advocacy for the needs of LGB IPV survivors.

    Internalized Heterosexism and Exposed Psychological Intimate Partner Violence: Experiences of Lesbian and Bisexual Women in Turkey and Denmark

    The current study investigates how associations between internalized heterosexism (IH) and psychological intimate partner violence (IPV) victimization differ for lesbian vs. bisexual (LB) women in Denmark, where queer people are relatively well accepted, and Turkey, where discrimination is still very high. The first purpose of the current study is to explore differences in the prevalence of psychological IPV victimization as a function of sexual orientation (LB women) and country (Denmark and Turkey). As the second purpose, we look at the moderating role of sexual orientation and moderated moderating role of country on the association between IH and psychological IPV victimization. A sample of 257 LB women aged 18-71 years (M = 33.23, SD = 11.15) from Denmark and 152 LB women aged 18-52 years (M = 28.88, SD = 7.70) from Turkey participa- ted. The results of chi-square analyses indicate that LB women from Turkey reported significantly higher psychological IPV victimization than LB women from Denmark. Lesbian than bisexual women from both countries reported more hostile withdrawal and dominance/intimidation-related psychological IPV victimization. The results of moderated moderation analyses reveal that lesbian women in Turkey and bisexual women in Denmark with higher IH were more likely to report experiencing denigration acts. Mental health professionals working with queer psychological IPV survivors may benefit from understanding that IH is associated with LB women's victimization of psychologi- cal IPV, which might be further associated with mental health challenges.

    Unraveling the Links Among Witnessing Interparental Conflict, Hopelessness, Psychological Dating Violence Victimization, and Adult Depressive Symptoms

    Witnessing interparental conflict in childhood predicts psychological dating violence victimization (PDVV) in adulthood. As found in previous studies, PDVV and hopelessness are associated with depression. However, the associations among these four variables have not been explored in detail. The present study, therefore, examined the association between perceived interparental conflict and depression in adulthood and whether PDVV and hopelessness might operate as sequential mechanisms accounting for the association. Participants (N = 283; M-age = 23.37 years, SD = 4.04 years) in romantic relationships completed measures of perceived interparental conflict, PDVV, hopelessness, and depression. The perceived interparental conflict was related to PDVV and depression but not to hopelessness in adulthood. Moreover, the association between witnessing interparental conflict and depression was serially mediated via PDVV and hopelessness. The results are discussed in regard to previous research, and their implications for future research are presented.

    Making the Myths of Dating Violence Visible: Developing a New Scale and Testing Its Psychometrics Through Cross-Sectional and Longitudinal Evidence

    Myths refer to misperceptions, overgeneralizations, or ideas that most people believe in but do not necessarily reflect the truth. To date, research on the myths surrounding dating violence (DV) has not received much attention, most probably due to the lack of a validated measure. Thus, we developed a standardized measure to gauge DV myths and test its psychometrics. The instrument's design is based on three studies utilizing cross-sectional and longitudinal sets of data. In Study 1, in a sample of 259 emerging adults, predominantly college students, the explanatory factor analysis revealed a solid three-factor structure. In Study 2, in a separate sample of 330 emerging adults, primarily college students, we cross-validated the factor structure via confirmatory factor analysis. We also provided evidence for concurrent validity. In Study 3, we revealed that our newly developed scale had predictive validity among dating and non-dating emerging adults, mostly college students, via longitudinal data. Based on the findings from three studies, we can buoyantly announce that the Dating Violence Myths scale is a promising novel and standardized tool for measuring beliefs about DV. The cross-sectional and longitudinal evidence alludes to a need for DV myths to be debunked to reduce psychological DV attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors among emerging adults.
