Abstract: The psychometric properties of the Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test (MAST), a commonly used self report screening instrument for symptom identification of problematic drinking and alcoholism, were explored. A total of 103 studies meeting inclusion criteria were reviewed and analyzed. Results for reliability, validity, and nonclinical descriptive statistics for the MAST are reported. The authors discuss implications for counseling practice and research.
