Abstract: The Turkish section of the Asi River Basin is a historically contested territorywith not only a rich cultural/historical heritage and rapidly changing populationdynamics but also a region with a high value-added agricultural production. Hatay– the city where Asi River enters Turkey – is surrounded by the Syrian border toits east and the Mediterranean Sea to its west while also forming the southernmostpart of Turkey. This study focuses on the political economy/political ecology of theTurkish section of the Asi River Basin with a focus on population, economy, governance and agriculture as the key sector in the region vis-à-vis the Asi as a localsocio-ecological metabolism.
