Presentation Conference Object Achieving Sdgs in University Libraries(İzmir Yüksek Teknolojiler Enstitüsü, 2023) Çimen, Ertuğrul...Conference Object Adapting public collections and libraries through 21st century strategies and solutions: Adapt, manage or perish(AI Magin Public Collections in the 21st Century in Light of Digital Development, 2024) Çimen, ErtuğrulThe presentation builds on three key pillars, focusing on the evolving role of librarians in the era of artificial intelligence (AI). The first pillar emphasises the importance of identifying effective strategies for navigating this transformative period. These strategies include digital transformation, digitisation and accessibility, intelligent cataloguing and search, community engagement, and the integration of advanced technologies into library operations. The second pillar highlights the critical roles and tasks that librarians are expected to undertake in this context. These tasks encompass staff training to enhance digital and AI competencies, upgrading infrastructure to support technological advancements, and implementing outreach programmes to engage communities and promote digital literacy. Practical recommendations are also provided, such as advocating for increased financial support through grant applications and lobbying efforts. Privacy and security emerge as significant concerns, necessitating measures to protect patron data. 54 Abstracts Recommended actions include the development of transparent policies, implementing threat detection and prevention systems, utilising data encryption and anonymisation techniques, and ensuring robust access control and authentication mechanisms. Continuous data monitoring, reporting, automatic updates, and patch management further enhance security protocols. The presentation also stresses the need for user-centred design in library services. This involves incorporating feedback mechanisms and offering inclusive services tailored to diverse user needs, ensuring accessibility and relevance for all patrons. The third pillar explores the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and its contributions to the intersection of AI and libraries. Key initiatives include the work of the Artificial Intelligence and Libraries Working Group, which addresses topics such as AI ethics and provides valuable publications and reports to guide libraries in adopting AI responsibly. In addition, the presentation introduces the pioneering work of MEF University and the MEF Library in Türkiye, both leaders in integrating AI within the academic and library sectors. MEF University achieved a significant milestone in November 2023 by publishing the first book on higher education and artificial intelligence applications on a global scale. It also became the first university in Türkiye to publish its AI policy, issuing two versions to address the evolving landscape.Presentation Akademik Kütüphanelerde Sosyal Medya Politikası: Dünyadan Örnekler(2017) Biçen Aras, BaharSosyal medya 21. yüzyılın önemli bir iletişim aracıdır. As centers of information, libraries can play a critical role in the dissemination of research and knowledge. As a key resource, libraries are always at the forefront of education and awareness creation. This poster studies the involvement of academic libraries with sustainable development in different countries and explores the factors affecting the extend of this involvement. For this study, five countries namely Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Greece, North Macedonia, and Türkiye were selected and academic libraries in these countries are invited to fill a survey. These countries were chosen because of their geographical proximity, similar socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, and corresponding librarianship approaches. In addition, the fact that there is no story from any of these countries in the SDGs section of the IFLA Library Map of the World has been decisive in the country selection. North Macedonia was left out of the analysis due to no response. Low response rate from other four countries reminds a further need for using tools other than survey to expend the analysis. Despite the low response rate, results are highlighting rising awareness among academic libraries and librarians.Presentation Covıd-19 Döneminin Olmazsa Olmazı Yeni Normalin Vazgeçilmezi:"e-kaynaklar". This project has been funded with support from the European Commission. Hermes project aims at providing educational institutions high quality, fast and free access to knowledge by building capacity to implement and share a comprehensive vision and wide spread competencies on resource sharing accompanied by an open source system to support effective access to knowledge for all. The project promotes cooperation and partnership among 5 organizations from Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey, Lebanon, and Spain; a national research institution, the worldwide umbrella organization for libraries, and 3 universities. All partners participate in the planned training and dissemination activities and the realization of all outputs. Project Partners : CNR Bologna Research Area library (Italy) is active in the field of software development since many years, having implemented NILDE and ALPE projects, the most important resource sharing projects in Italy for the number of involved institutions (90 Universities and Public Research organisations) and users (870 libraries and their 80.000 users). It coordinates the whole project and leads the realization of the new software. University of Balamand (Lebanon) is a not-for-profit academic institution of higher education active in resource sharing on the National and International levels being part of Lebanese Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Services (LIDS) consortium and represented in the IFLA Document Delivery and Resource Sharing standing committee. Its participation to the project is important because it brings the possibility to reach a vast number of potential beneficiaries: the Arabic speaking librarians and users. HERMES will translate in Arabic the training materials and, through specific dissemination activities, invite Arabic speaking librarians and library users to participate to training opportunities offered by the project not only in Lebanon but, being distance courses, potentially in all Arabic countries. University of Cantabria (Spain) cooperated with NILDE in order to ease the international interlibrary loan between Italian and Spanish libraries, and to spread the Resource Sharing Initiative. It brings to the project the experience in Inter Library Loan service being part of the national REBIUN ILL-DD-WG in guidelines of the ILL service, and having participated in NILDE survey on international ILL exchanges. University of Cantabria in particular takes care of the realization of monitoring and evaluation tools for training.MEF University (Turkey) has specific experience in management of digital resources, in fact the great majority of its resources are electronic. MEF brings to the project two aspects: a vision on how users can fully familiarize with how to access the digital resources, and an opportunity to involve Turkish libraries in the project activities. MEF University is responsible of the coordination of training activities foreseen in the project. International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) is based in the Netherlands but it is the global organization representing all library types in over 150 countries including all EU. It brings to the project, a part from an enormous potential in dissemination, a considerable expertise in the development, evaluation and publication of standards and tools designed to work for the entire global library field from which HERMES will benefit in the production of all outputs. Moreover, the Document Delivery and Resource Sharing Section of IFLA brings specific expertise in the project topic: HERMES can count on the potential of IFLA both as a forum for e exchanging experience and in developing tools and guidance that can support colleagues globally. IFLA is responsible for coordinating the production of the publication and for the organization of HERMES final international conference.
