Conference Object Utilizing of Tincal Ore Wastes in Ceramic Industry(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2023) Yücel, Onuralp; Özmen, Levent; Yıldırım, Yıldız; Başoğlu, DilekBoron mining is carried out as opencast/open pit mining in Turkey. The obtained boron ore is presented to the utilization of many industrial branches such as insulation fiberglass and ceramic glazes, after washing, distribution, and classification according to the size but most of commercial applications of borates require the use of refined borates (Briggs in Kirk–Othmer encyclopedia of chemical technology, 2001). Approximately 4.2 million tons (2 million tons based on B2O3) of boron were produced globally in 2016. In worldwide B2O3-based boron production, Eti Maden (Turkey) ranks first with a 50% share, USA with 25%, and other countries with 25% are trailing Turkey (Bor Sector Report, Eti Mine, 2009). It is known that, during the production of boron containing chemicals, some of these are spreading to environment (Karahan et al. in J Colloid Interface Sci 293:36, 2006; Sahin in Desalination 143:35, 2002). Boron-containing wastes coming out of the exploitation facilities are generally solid and in small dimensions, and also in pulp state. The studies related with the evaluation of boron waste demonstrate that the most appropriate evaluation method for the boron waste is storing the waste without harming the environment or regaining the boron within the waste and making the remaining minerals including clay suitable for the utilization of appropriate sectors (Christogerou et al. in Ceram Int 35:447, 2009). Boron containing wastes generating from production facilities are suitable raw materials for appropriate sectors when environmental impacts are being taken into consideration, too. In this study, the effect of various amounts of boron waste added to the ceramic body on forming and firing processes have been analyzed. This study has been carried out in order to provide information for bringing in this inert potential resource to the advantage of the country’s economy. © 2023, The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society.Presentation Shared Knowledge, Shared Future: Strengthening International Library Alliances in an Era of Complexity(2025) Çimen, ErtuğrulMEF Kütüphane Direktörü Ertuğrul Çimen, 09-12 Temmuz tarihleri arasında düzenlenen Macar Kütüphaneciler Derneği Kongresi'nde “Shared Knowledge, Shared Future: Strengthening International Library Alliances in an Era of Complexity” başlıklı sunumunu gerçekleştirmiştir.Conference Object Dijital dönüşümün filizlenmesi için gerekli koşullar: MEF’te öğrendiklerimiz(2019) Dinçer, ÖzoranAşağıdaki Adımlara göre MEF'teki dönüşümü nasıl yönettiğimizi açıklıyoruz: 6 Characteristics To Increase Technology Adoption -Thorpe, L. A survey was conducted among library directors and managers of ANKOS member universities to evaluate cost-sharing models in order to create improved models. The data obtained from the questionnaire were analyzed in SPSS, the first time that these cost-sharing models have been assessed on the national level. The results of the study are presented for the benefit of other consortia and scientists/researchers and library professionals working in the field. Design/methodology/approach : This article takes a historical and descriptive approach and uses statistical methods to analyze the results of the survey. It also focuses on obtaining objective results from the Consortium members' feedback. Findings : As with other library consortia all over the world, many different cost-sharing models have been used by ANKOS. As a result of this study, the most suitable models have been determined for different scales of academic libraries. In negotiations with publishers and vendors, priority will be given to price models preferred by member institutions. Practical implications : The material presented should be useful for all academic librarians concerned with consortium systems, cost-sharing, and e-resource management, especially in the developing world. This paper also provides some key points for academic librarians in the process of establishing a consortium. Originality/value : This paper is an example of successful academic library consortium activities in a developing country and examines, in detail, the developments, opportunities, and challenges experienced since the establishment of the consortium.Conference Object Developing Standards for Adaptive Leaning Platform Usage(2023) Güler, Sabiha Elvan; Topal, İlke; Özdemir, Paker DoğuThis research aimed to develop standards for the effective use of Adaptive Learning Platforms (ALPs), embarking on a broader developmental study characterized by iterative processes of design, testing, and refinement. As MEF, a Flipped University who embraced Flipped Learning Approach in its all faculties, we also got interested in integration of these systems. Each AL platform has its own design of UI and UX. Already learning an LMS is a challenge, understanding how a brand new platform works may hinder student motivation for learning. Blackboard Learn, being the number one prefered LMS platform in the world in higher education, has integration options with most of AL platforms. This integration facilitates to navigate and focus more on the learning tasks and experience for students. While having a solid and widely used LMS is an advantage, there are still challenges in adapting AL systems for an institution. Individual adoption of Instructors results with student resistance, as they have to pay extra fee for the platform. When students reject to pay, then Instructor cannot implement his course design. At MEF, first contact with AL platforms happened thanks to individual efforts of some instructors. Once we see the potential, we asked different platforms for trial this semester and now we have unlimited access to two big platforms and promised them to pay as an Institution. In approximately 20 courses (%5 of total) we use AL and to understand the effectiveness of these platforms, we will use six level ACUE Effective Practice Framework©: faculty engagement, faculty learning, faculty implementation, student engagement, course-level student outcomes and institutional outcomes.Article Advocacy and Collaboration in a Time of Global Upheaval: Insights from IFLA Regional Divisions(IFLA, 2025) Çimen, Ertuğrul; Koen, DianeAt the 2025 IFLA World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) in Astana, the IFLA Regional Council brought together librarians and advocates from across the globe to reflect on the pressing challenges facing libraries in an era of political polarization, social unrest, and digital transformation. Under the theme "Advocacy and Collaboration in a Time of Global Upheaval: A Unified Response from the IFLA Regional Divisions," the session highlighted how libraries are navigating censorship pressures, promoting multicultural engagement, championing access to information in overlooked communities, and responding to emerging threats to democratic participation. The presentations spanned continents and contexts, from European courts to Canadian prisons, from African misinformation campaigns to Latin American policy initiatives, demonstrating that while challenges vary by region, the library profession's commitment to intellectual freedom, equity, and democratic values remains universal. The full recording of the session is available on the IFLA YouTube channel.Presentation Presentation Book Part A Comparative Study on How Academic Libraries Contribute to Sustainability(Emerald Publishing Limited, 2026) Çimen, Ertuğrul; Cevher, Nilay; Gedik, Kübra Zayim; Bulgan, Uğur; Akbaytürk Çanak, Tuba; Sezgin, Üstün BerkSustainability, encompassing environmental, economic, and social dimensions, is central to creating a more inhabitable future, and the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) address multifaceted challenges, including information access and education inequalities. Libraries, particularly academic libraries, have a core mission to provide and disseminate sustainable information, positioning them as key contributors to achieving the SDGs. This comparative study investigates the diverse roles of academic libraries in advancing these goals across Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Greece, North Macedonia, and Türkiye, chosen for their regional proximity and similar socio-cultural and librarianship contexts. Drawing upon survey data, the study explores the involvement of academic libraries in sustainable development within these countries and the factors influencing their engagement. Despite a low response rate, the findings highlight a growing awareness among academic libraries and librarians toward sustainable development, revealing diverse strategies, successful approaches, and challenges encountered. Ultimately, the study underscores the vital role of academic libraries as catalysts for knowledge dissemination, community empowerment, and innovation in advancing the global sustainability agenda, offering valuable insights for policymakers and library stakeholdersConference Object Flipped Learning : a Reliable Approach To Teaching English?(IATED-INT ASSOC TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION & DEVELOPMENT, 2019) Sharifi, AhmadEnglish language teaching has seen a great shift from a teacher-fronted instruction towards more flexible, active, engaging, and learner-centered teaching models that reduce the limitations and issues of traditional teaching models. One of these models is flipped learning, which is a form of blended learning where students learn new content or lessons at home, and do what used to be called homework in their classroom collaboratively. This model, which has recently been developed and is based on Bloom's taxonomy of learning, has been put forth to maximize the quality of learner-centered teaching model. Unfortunately, there is very little research on this newly-developed model in EFL environment, especially in Turkey. With this in mind, this study aims to examine Turkish students' perceptions of and attitudes towards flipped learning through a questionnaire before and after the course. Also, there will be two intermediate classes, one acting as the experimental group in which the flipped classroom model will be administered. In the control group, the traditional teaching model will be used. Finally, the passing grades of the students in the control and experimental groups will be compared to see if there is a significant difference.Conference Object Book Part Türkiye’deki Üniversite Kütüphanelerinde Engelli Kullanıcılara Yönelik Hizmetler: Bir Durum Değerlendirmesi(Hiperyayın, 2019) Biçen Aras, Bahar; Bezirci, PervinKişilerin bilgiye sınırsız erişebilmesi, eriştiği bilgiyi kullanabilmesi en doğal insani hakkıdır.
