Branching Out Ideas: Concept Maps Effect on Memory and L2 Writing

The purpose of this study was to develop a curriculum to teach visual concept mapping and improve student attitudes on writing and the quality of their examination essays. We used visual word and image connections to improve the working memory and language aptitude students and gathered a small amount of data. The study took place during the summer module of an English preparatory program and was voluntary. We developed the workshop and the methodology for students who were continuing the English preparatory program into summer school. We gave surveys and personal interviews to students and workshop instructors after the workshops to ascertain students' attitude and knowledge of the material as well as the effectiveness of the program. Research partners took notes and recordings of the workshops. End of course writing exams were referenced for quantitative data but was limited due to the workshops being voluntary. The workshops were peripheral to the course module and aimed to be as casual and accommodating to student’s heavy workload as possible while targeting specific tasks that they were responsible for in the course and final examination. Further research is needed but the limited data suggests a correlation between student’s inclusion of mind mapping techniques and their ability to complete the demands of the final exam writing rubric.
Public Libraries and Digital Natives: the Situation in Turkey

Digital natives are the generation of people who are born into andraised in digital technology, accept digital instruments as a part of theirlives, see technology as an ordinary part of their everyday lives, and createa unique lifestyle shaped by digital media. These people differ fromindividuals of former generations with their unique characteristics.Especially while learning, they exhibit different attitudes, perceptionsand behaviors from individuals of former generations in processes suchas searching, accessing, using, sharing information, etc. Due to thesedifferences, it is inevitable for education and culture institutions todevelop new methods, services and applications intended for digitalnatives. One of these educational institutions is the public libraries.Today, it is essential to take into consideration the changing needs andexpectations of digital natives, who are the most important users of publiclibraries’ services and applications. In this study, with which efficacy ofdigital native-oriented services and policies that public libraries in Turkeyhave developed have been questioned, it has been aimed to determine theperceptions, thoughts and expectations of the librarians, administratorsand clerks working in the public libraries regarding the services andapplications provided to digital natives in the libraries they work. Withinthis framework, a questionnaire has been executed covering 399participants selected randomly from administrators, librarians andclerks working in public libraries in Turkey. The data obtained from the questionnaire have been analyzed on SPSS 24.00. From the data being analyzed, the conclusion drawn is that a great majority of the participants have negative perceptions regarding the services and applications provided to the digital natives. Within the context of the results gained from the study, some suggestions regarding the public libraries in Turkey have been developed.
Sağlık Sektörü Harcamalarının Makroekonomik Göstergeler Üzerindeki Etkisinin Analizi

Bu çalışmanın amacı sağlık harcamalarının makroekonomik göstergelerle ilişkisini kapsamlı bir şekilde ortaya koymaktır. Bu çerçevede, seçilen ülkeler AB üyeliğine sahip 2019 yılı GSYİH değeri en yüksek 5 ülke; Almanya, Fransa, Hollanda, İtalya, İspanya olarak belirlenmiştir. Makroekonomik göstergelerden, gayri safi yurt içi hasıla, kişi başına gayri safi yurt içi hasıla, tüketici fiyat endeksi, sanayi üretim endeksi, büyüme oranı, işsizlik ve işgücüne katılım oranı bağımsız değişkenlerdir ve ilgili veriler 1992-2019 yılını kapsamaktadır. Panel veri analiz yöntemine göre yapılan çalışmada, Türkiye’nin de içerisinde bulunduğu 6 ülkede sağlık harcamalarında meydana gelen artıştan en çok etkilenen değişken gayri safi yurt içi hasıladır ve negatif olarak etkilendiğini söylemek mümkündür. Yalnızca Türkiye’de sağlık harcamalarının tüketici fiyat endeksi üzerinde etkisi anlamlı ve pozitiftir. İşsizlik değişkeninin sağlık harcamalarıyla uzun dönem ilişkisi tüm panelde anlamlı ve pozitiftir. Tüm panel incelendiğinde sağlık harcamalarının; gayri safi yurt içi hasıla, kişi başına gayri safi yurt içi hasıla, işsizlik, büyüme oranı, tüfe ve sanayi üretim endeksi ile anlamlı bir ilişkisi bulunmaktadır. İşgücüne katılım oranı ile de anlamsız bir ilişki tespit edilmiştir.

Bu çalışma, sürdürülebilir bir kurumsal akademik arşiv yönetimini Doğuş Üniversitesi Akademik Arşiv Sistemi deneyimi ile paylaşmak, bu konudaki girişimlere yardımcı olmak ve kurumsal akademik arşivlerin önemini vurgulamak üzere hazırlanmıştır. Çalışmada betimsel yöntem kullanılmıştır. Bu çerçevede dünyada ve Türkiye’deki kurumsal akademik arşivler, harmanlama sistemleri ve Doğuş Üniversitesi Akademik Arşiv Sistemi uygulamaları üzerinde durulmuştur.

Yeni Koronavirüs (COVID-19) Sürecinde Türkiye’de Üniversite Kütüphaneleri

Bu çalışmanın amacı Yeni Koronovirüs (COVID-19) nedeniyle binalarını kapatarak yüz yüze kullanıcı hizmetlerine ara vermek ya da askıya almak durumunda kalan üniversite kütüphanelerini tespit etmek, hizmetlerine devam edenlerin hizmetlerini hangi koşullarda, hangi sürelerle verdiğini belirlemek ve kütüphanelerin yeniden açılması durumunda yapılması gerekenler ile ilgili önerilerde bulunmaktır. Bu amacı bütünsel bir çerçevede yakalayabilmek için üniversite kütüphanelerinin farklı paydaşları olan yayıncıların, meslek örgütlerinin bu dönemdeki çalışmaları da küresel düzeyde incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın bir diğer amacı ise üniversite kütüphanelerinin altyapı, bütçe, koleksiyon, kullanıcı eğitimi, personel açısından uzaktan hizmet vermeye ne kadar hazır olduklarını, ani gelişen bu durum nedeniyle yaşanan sorunları tespit etmek ve sorunlar için çözüm önerileri sunmaktır. Çalışmanın temelini oluşturan veriler 209 (129 Devlet Üniversitesi, 75 Vakıf Üniversitesi, 5 Vakıf MYO) yükseköğretim kurumunun kütüphane yöneticilerine gönderilen anket sorularına verilen cevaplardan elde edilmiştir. Ankete 84 kurum katılmıştır. Anket sonuçları Surveey.com ve MS Excel ile analiz edilmiş ve görselleştirilmiştir.
