This article elaborates on the concept of climate security as a subfield of environmental security research agenda, and investigatesthe place of climate security concept in Turkey’s climate policies.First, the evolution of the environmental security concept in theliterature is elaborated. Subsequently, climate security discourse,as a sub-field of environmental security, is examined. The conceptof climate security is explained with examples from the UnitedNations’, United States’ and European Union’s official statementsand discourses. Lastly, the place of climate security discourse inTurkey’s climate policies is investigated. By using qualitativecontent analysis method, the use of climate security discourse inthe official documents of the Ministry of Environment and UrbanPlanning of Turkey, Turkey’s official speeches in the SecurityCouncil, and two significant newspapers in the country areanalyzed.
