The key point for correct store location is profit approximation, which is highly dependent on population of the corresponding region, and hence, the volume of the residential area. Thus, estimating building volumes provides insight about the revenue if a new store is about to be opened there. Remote sensing through stereo/tri-stereo satellite images provides wide area coverage as well as adequate resolution for three dimensional reconstruction for volume estimation. We reconstruct 3D map of corresponding region with the help of semiglobal matching and mask R-CNN algorithms for this purpose. Using the existing store data, we construct models for estimating the revenue based on surrounding building volumes. In order to choose the right location, the suitable utility model, which calculates store revenues, shouldbe rigorously determined. Moreover, model parameters should be assessed as correctly as possible. Instead of using randomly generated parameters, we employ remote sensing, computer vision, and machine learning techniques, which provide a novel way for evaluating new store locations.Article Citation - WoS: 11Citation - Scopus: 10Is the Road Still Bumpy Without the Most Frequent Life Events?(Wiley, 2017) Gülgöz, Sami; Ece, BerivanTwo studies were conducted to explore the effect of the most frequent life events on the reminiscence bump. Thefirststudy examined the life scripts and autobiographical memories of 44 adults [Mage= 62.8, standard deviation (SD) = 2.8] byremoving the most frequent 10 life events. The regular reminiscence bump disappeared in the distribution of both event types.The second study explored whether results of thefirst study would be extended to autobiographical memories evoked by differentmethods. Cue word and important memories reported by 64 adults (Mage= 66.6, SD = 2.8) were examined. Important memorieshad later bump than cue word memories, but removing the top 10 life events affected the bumps of both memory types with astronger impact on important memories. Children (7 to 11 years old, N = 88) were presented with four vignettes depicting resource-rich and resource-poor candidates losing educational materials and experiences. Results demonstrated that children attributed more negative emotions when the resource-poor candidate lost resources. Older children attributed more two-sided emotions to procedural justice outcomes, mainly when the resource-poor candidates lost resources. However, emotion complexity was not always positively associated with welfare justifications, such that children considered the type of resource, needs of the candidates, and outcomes. In addition, children from low subjective social status (SSS) attributed more positive emotions and used more emotion complexity for the loser. Adult patients with unprovoked VTE were identified from the MarketScan claims database from January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2012. The index date was defined as the date of first VTE diagnosis. Patients were required to have no VTE diagnosis in the 6 months before index date and continuous health plan enrollment for 6 months before and 12 months after the index date. Warfarin discontinuation rates and adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) were reported. Of 21,163 eligible patients, 15,463 were diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) only (73.1%), 5027 with pulmonary embolism (PE) only (23.7%), and 673 with DVT and PE (3.2%). The average duration of warfarin therapy was 5.2 months (SD = 3.0). During 1-year follow-up, 21.4% patients discontinued therapy within 3 months, 42.8% within 6 months, and 70.1% within 12 months. PE versus DVT [HR = 0.77, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.74-0.80], comorbid atrial fibrillation (HR = 0.73, 95% CI = 0.66-0.81), thrombophilia (HR = 0.62, 95% CI = 0.54-0.71), and age >40 years (41-65 years: HR = 0.86, 95% CI = 0.81-0.91; >65 years: HR = 0.82, 95% CI = 0.77-0.87) were significantly associated with reduced risk of warfarin discontinuation. Alcohol abuse/dependence (HR = 1.36, 95% CI = 1.20-1.55), cancer history (HR = 1.13, 95% CI = 1.07-1.19), bleeding (HR = 1.07, 95% CI = 1.01-1.15), and catheter ablation (HR = 1.10, 95% CI = 1.00-1.20) in the 6 months before index date were significantly associated with increased risk for warfarin discontinuation. In conclusion, nearly 1 of 4 patients with unprovoked VTE discontinued warfarin within 3 months. Three of 4 patients discontinued therapy within 1 year. Younger age and multiple clinical factors are associated with warfarin therapy discontinuation.Article Examining the Role of Dark and Light Triad Traits on Sociosexuality(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2025) Urganci, Betul; Sevi, Baris; Dogruyol, Burak; Sakman, EzgiSociosexual orientation-the tendency toward casual sex, is associated with dispositional components of personality such as higher scores of Dark Triad traits (narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy). Yet, it remains unknown which specific Dark Triad traits and Light Triad traits (Kantianism, Humanism, and Faith in Humanity) predict sociosexuality and its dimensions while controlling for the others. In the current study, using an online community sample (N = 308), we examined the links between Dark Triad traits, Light Triad traits, overall sociosexuality, and sociosexuality dimensions (attitude, behavior, desire). Using hierarchical regression, we found that only psychopathy emerged as the predictor of behavior, desire, attitude dimensions, and sociosexuality total score. This effect held when controlling for age, sex, relationship status, the other two Dark personality traits, and the Light Triad. We hypothesize that financial intermediation is a significant mediating factor in the relationship between state–business relations and firm performance. Employing a causal mediation analysis, results show that inefficient ties with the state are a cause of poor firm performance. Inefficient state–business relations reduce firm performance by 2.3 to 4.4 per cent through access to finance and by 12 to 40 per cent via its direct effect. First, the mathematical models commonly used for predicting the static displacement of a sphere located at an elastic medium interface are presented and their performances are compared. After that, based on the finite element analyses, an accurate mathematical model to predict the static displacement of a sphere located at an elastic medium interface valid for different Poisson's ratios of the medium and small and large sphere displacements is proposed. Then, an improved mathematical model for the dynamic response of a sphere located at a viscoelastic medium interface is developed. In addition to the Young's modulus of the medium and the radius of the sphere, the model takes into account the density, Poisson's ratio and viscosity of the medium, the mass of the sphere and the radiation damping. The effects of the radiation damping, the Young's modulus, density and viscosity of the medium and the density of the sphere on the dynamic response of the sphere located at a viscoelastic medium interface are explored. The developed model can be used to understand the dynamic responses of spherical objects located at viscoelastic medium interfaces in practical applications. Lutfi; Agaogullari, DuyguThis study reports on the thermochemical calculations, mechanochemical synthesis, purification process, and characterization studies of the HfB2 powders by using native sources. Firstly, HfO2, native B2O3, and Mg starting powders were prepared with a multi-axial vibratory ball mill (NanoMultimix) in stoichiometric and excess amounts. The milling process was optimized by varying the time (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 h). Then, unwanted by-products (HfO2, MgO) were removed by leaching with 4 and 6 M HCl. Phase and Rietveld analysis, microstructure investigations with scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersion spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy, and particle size measurement were conducted. The purest HfB2 was obtained in the powders milled for 8 h in stoichiometric ratios and leached with 6 M HCl. The resulting optimum powder has an average particle size of 135 nm. Oxidation kinetics (500, 600, 700, 800, and 900 degrees C) were also investigated. As the temperature increased, the amount of oxidation increased based on the TG result. The theme-driven keywordsare searched for on Turkey’s first original social network, EksiSozluk, to uncover trends and biases towards student loans, debtrepayment and associated concepts. Subsequently, the samekeywords are utilized in a Google Trends search volume analysis,and are finally validated by a focus group discussion. Thetheoretical framework to explain students’ attitudes towardsborrowing and loan repayment and the motivation behind alumniand charitable giving, rests mainly on behavioral economics. Data were collected during home visits using the Maltreatment Q-Sort (MQS). A total of 466 mothers from nine different countries gave their opinion about child maltreatment by sorting 90 cards with parenting behaviors taken from the literature that reflect four types of child maltreatment, into 9 evenly distributed stacks (with 10 cards each) from least to most harmful for the child. This data article provides an overview of the content of the 90 items, which type of maltreatment they reflect, and the source of the items. The percentage of mothers labelling each of the MQS items as maltreatment is also presented. In addition, instructions are included about the administration of the MQS as well as data-entry and analyses of Q-sort data, accompanied by example datasets and syntaxes. Methods: This retrospective analysis used data from a U.S. national database (01 January 2008-31 December 2010). Patients with a diagnosis of menopause symptoms or a prescription claim for hormone therapy were matched to control patients. Healthcare resource utilization and costs during the 6-month follow-up period were compared. Generalized linear models were used to adjust for differences in baseline and demographic characteristics between the cohorts. Results: A total of 71,076 patients were included in each cohort. Patients with menopausal symptoms were more likely to have depression and anxiety and incurred significantly higher follow-up healthcare costs ($7237 vs $6739, p < 0.001) and healthcare utilization during the 6-month follow-up period. Conclusion: Patients diagnosed with menopausal symptoms or treated with hormone therapy incurred significantly higher healthcare costs than those without menopausal symptoms or treatment.Article Citation - WoS: 17Citation - Scopus: 22Turkish Version of the Multidimensional Measure of Emotional Abuse: Preliminary Psychometrics in College Students(Springer, 2018) Hatipoğlu Sümer, Zeynep; Murphy, Christopher M.; Toplu Demirtaş, EzgiThe aim of the current study was to investigate the basic psychometrics of the Multidimensional Measure of Emotional Abuse (MMEA; Murphy & Hoover, 1999) in a Turkish sample. Two hundred and fifty-four college students participated and completed the Turkish version of the MMEA (MMEA-TR) along with the Physical Assault of Conflict Tactics Scale—Revised, Experiences in Close Relationships Inventory, Relationship Assessment Scale, and Social Desirability Questionnaire. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the four-factor structure of the MMEA-TR for both victimization and perpetration reports. This factor structure was cross-validated with an independent older sample of 328 dating college students for perpetration reports. Satisfactory criterion validity and internal consistency reliability results were obtained as well. Based on the preliminary investigation, the MMEA-TR appears to be a psychometrically sound measure of psychological dating aggression perpetration and victimization among college students in Turkey. A single group pre- and post-test study was conducted with the participation of 17 mentees, novice middle school mathematics teachers. Participants' noticing skills were assessed through a whole-class teaching video shown to them before and after the intervention. The responses of the teachers to the video assessment were analyzed considering attending, interpreting and decision-making dimensions of noticing. In dry-land basins they control flooding and provide water and energy to farms, cities and industry. Yet, they face numerous challenges. In 2013 we formed an interdisciplinary team to study future conditions of nine river basins worldwide. This paper presents the methodology and interim results for two of our basins, the Rio Grande and the Euphrates-Tigris. As such, it uncovers that the current low-carbon transition process in Turkey is prone to be shaped by the highly politicized energy market in an authoritarian neoliberal structure on the one hand, and Turkey's priorities in energy issues and hard security on the other. The findings further reveal that Turkey's efforts to use more domestic energy resources to meet its consumption needs might also interfere with its efforts and obligations to decarbonize its energy sector. The scrutiny into the low-carbon energy transition in Turkey accordingl contributes further insight into the consequences of the spatiality of such transitions in an authoritarian neoliberal context, and what other alternative policies can be imagined and put in practice. Thus, more empirical research is warranted to reveal the spatiality of the low-carbon energy transition across various geographical settings. At the same time, the article argues that both the EU and its partners such as Turkey should be weary of creating green utopias when redesigning their green-energy space since utopias tout court may not always stimulate large-scale change in a revolutionary way in terms of sustainability, feasibility, good practice, and inclusiveness in decision-making processes.Article Citation - WoS: 11Citation - Scopus: 14Modelling Small and Large Displacements of a Sphere on an Elastic Half-Space Exposed To a Dynamic Force(IOP Publishing, 2021) Hasan KörükSpheres at medium interfaces are encountered in many applications, including in atomic force microscopy or indentation tests. Although the Hertz theory describes the contact mechanics between an elastic sphere and an elastic half-space for static loading and small deformations very well, there is a need to consider the density of the medium, the mass of the sphere and the radiation damping for dynamic loading to obtain reliable results. In this study, an analytical model for predicting the small and large displacements of a sphere on an elastic half-space exposed to a dynamic force is developed. For this purpose, after summarizing a mathematical model that has recently been proposed for the sphere at a medium interface, a finite element model for the sphere at an elastic interface is developed. Based on the comparison of the mathematical and finite element models, an improved analytical model for the sphere at an elastic interface is developed. In addition to considering the elastic properties of the medium and the size of the sphere, the model developed here takes into account the density of the medium, the mass of the sphere, and the radiation damping, and the model is valid for small and large sphere displacements. The developed model can be used to understand the dynamic responses of spherical objects at medium interfaces in practical applications. SerdarThe rapid spread of smart wireless devices and expansion of mobile data traffic have increased the interest for efficient traffic offloading techniques in next-generation communication technologies. Wi-Fi offloading uses ubiquitous Wi-Fi technology in order to satisfy the ever increasing demand for mobile bandwidth and therefore is an appropriate methodology for mobile operators. As a matter of fact, design and integration of an offloading technology inside mobile network operators' infrastructures is a challenging task due to convergence issues between the The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and non-3GPP networks. Therefore, a connectivity management platform is a key element for integrated heterogeneous mobile network operators in order to enable smart and effective offloading. In this paper, analysis, design and integration of a connectivity management platform that uses a Multiple Attribute Decision Making (MADM) algorithm for efficient Wi-Fi Offloading in heterogeneous wireless networks is presented. In order to enhance the end-user's quality-of-experience (QoE), we have especially concentrated on the benefits that can be achieved by exploiting the presence of integrated service provider platform. Hence, the proposed platform can collect several User Equipment (UE) and network-based attributes via infrastructure and client Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and decides on the best network access technology (i.e. 3GPP and non-3GPP) to connect to for requested users. We have also proposed multi-user extensions of the MADM algorithms for offloading. Through simulations and experiments, we provide details of the comparisons of the proposed algorithms as well as the sensitivity analysis of the MADM algorithm through an experimental set-up.Article Network Among Hta Ecosystem(Springer Verlag, 2019) Çınaroğlu, Songül; Başer, OnurThis study intends to examine the main drivers of network relations among health technology assessment (HTA) organizations. Social network analysis was performed to determine the relations among HTA organizations and to visualize the main drivers of such collaboration. The members in HTA organizations such as International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research, Health Technology Assessment international, International Network of Agencies for Health Technology Assessment, EuroScan, European Network for Health Technology Assessment, HTAsiaLink, and Health Technology Assessment Network for the Americas are said to create networks. Ten different HTA organizations were considered in the analysis, including the Ministry of Health (MoH) organizations, universities, for-profit organizations, and hospitals. The Fruchterman-Reingold algorithm was used to perform networking, and the average clustering coefficient and average path length were examined to measure collaborative performance. The network graph of the HTA ecosystem shows the highest collaborative frequency among HTA organizations, which are the members of MoH organizations, government agencies, universities, and nonprofit organizations. The average path length was 2.21, and the average clustering coefficient was 36.57, indicating an obvious clustering effect. The study results highlight that networking within the HTA ecosystem is driven by government organizations. Boosting the integration of the private sector into the system and creating data-sharing strategies are essential to foster HTA collaboration. Because HTA is shaped by local dynamics and no gold standard exists for HTA implementation, encouraging collaborative efforts is the only way to avoid redundant efforts and make health technologies available for everyone.
