A description of Mars’ surface features is followed by a review of early concepts of crewed mobility for the Moon and Mars. Wheeled concepts for crew mobility continue to be based on the success of the Lunar Roving Vehicle, and predominantly take the form of a pressurized rover on wheels. In conflictual situations where military force is used, it is important to create an impact in a short time to promote national interests by informing and influencing the public. This chapter will first introduce the fundamental tenets of public diplomacy to offer a conceptual framework to better understand its use during military conflicts. It will then explore the implementation of public diplomacy instruments by Turkish government during the “Operation Peace Spring”, which was launched in October 2019. The introduction of "design-build" studios and programs into the academic architectural curricula of many schools worldwide reflects recognition of the unhealthy and artificial separation made between design studio culture and the content of technical courses and constitutes an important way of bridging this self-imposed gap. Preserving the simultaneity of concerns and relationships during the design process, although difficult, is rather crucial to an "inquiry-based" approach to learning. Although there are many variants of these problems, there exist two common features: finding the best locations for one or more facilities and allocating demand points to these facilities. A considerable number of studies assume a monopolistic viewpoint and formulate a mathematical model to optimize an objective function of a single decision maker. In contrast, competitive facility location (CFL) problem is based on the premise that there exist competition in the market among different firms. When one of the competing firms acts as the leader and the other firm, called the follower, reacts to the decision of the leader, a sequential-entry CFL problem is obtained, which gives rise to a Stackelberg type of game between two players. A successful and widely applied framework to formulate this type of CFL problems is bilevel programming (BP). In this chapter, the literature on BP models for CFL problems is reviewed, existing works are categorized with respect to defined criteria, and information is provided for each work.Book Part The TRAIN Framework for AI-Assisted Development of Novice Accounting Instructors(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2025) Son-Turan, SemenNovice accounting instructors in higher education, and particularly in specialized fields like accounting, face significant challenges, including the need to frequently update curricula, balance theoretical and practical instruction, master new technologies, and integrate sustainability principles into their teaching. These demands are compounded by limited access to professional development resources and growing pressures for educational sustainability. This study evaluates the potential of AI chatbots to address these challenges by enhancing the capacity of junior instructors to create and deliver effective, sustainability-aligned course materials. It introduces the TRAIN framework (Technology-enhanced Responsible AI Integration for Novice Instructors), a structured model designed to align AI capabilities with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 4.c (Teacher Training). Through a systematic literature review (2019–2024), the research identifies key themes, including chatbot integration in education, AI’s capabilities and limitations, and its broader implications for accounting education. The findings demonstrate that AI chatbots can streamline content creation, provide personalized instructional support, and foster sustainable teaching practices. By bridging critical gaps in AI literacy and sustainability integration, the TRAIN framework offers a roadmap for empowering educators to meet evolving educational demands while advancing environmentally responsible teaching methodologies. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Book Part Citation - Scopus: 1From Ceremony To Spectacle: Changing Perception of Hagia Sophia Through the Night of Decree (layla’t-Ul Kadr) Prayer Ceremonies [Book Part](Edinburgh University Press, 2024) Uğurlu, A.HilalAfter the Hagia Sophia was converted into an imperial mosque by Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II (r. 1451–81), it became a key venue for imperial religious ceremonies. From the sixteenth century until the 1830s, Ottoman sultans customarily performed the Night of Decree prayers at the Hagia Sophia. Although sultans eventually left this tradition and began attending the Night of Decree prayers at other mosques, such as Nusretiye and later Yıldız Hamidiye Mosques, the Hagia Sophia remained significant for Istanbulites. From the 1880s, the court altered the ceremonial decorum at the Hagia Sophia, issuing passes for foreign embassy staff and guests to observe from the upper galleries, with officials explaining the rituals. This period saw an increase in non-Muslim spectators, from tens to thousands. This paper examines the transformation of a religious ceremony into a spectacle by conceptualizing the Hagia Sophia as a showpiece monument, distinct in function from other imperial mosques. Articulation of the changing pedagogical approaches and visions of the innovative, student-centered ideas of the twenty-first century through the physical characters of learning spaces has become a significant issue for research regarding the design of contemporary schools. The evolution of the formation of boundaries, borders, and thresholds defining the distinctions and establishing the relationships and hierarchies between the learning spaces at school settings constitutes a critical part of this process, which deserves attention. This chapter aims to search for boundary-related design suggestions for primary schools in Turkey, based on the data obtained through a field study conducted in Istanbul, which aimed to derive the current issues regarding the spatial use patterns in prototype-based, conventionally designed schools. Since 19th century, design studios have been at the core of very different models of architectural education. Design studios have always been always active learning environments where students learn by doing. Typically, students are presented with design problems to which they need to develop personal solutions. Thus, from the very beginning of their studies, students simulate how an actual architect would approach design problems. With each new design studio, they develop new skills or hone the ones they have already acquired. Such an approach immediately creates a learning culture which is based on active learning where students are challenged to take responsibility, to solve complex problems and develop their individual character as designers while being able to work in group environments. A design studio is not a course where information is given an it is expected the students learn and use that information. It is a collaborative learning environment. Thus, following the lead of design studios, flipping theoretical courses within the architectural curriculum and making them active learning environments should be almost natural. However, this is not necessarily the case. There is a wide gap in pedagogical approaches used between design studios and theory courses within architectural education (Allen, 1997; Chiuini, 2006; Smith, 2004; Oakley, B, Felder, R M, Brent, R; Elhajj, I, 2004). Courses on architectural technology (structures, construction methods, detailing) and to a lesser extent courses on history and theory of architecture are taught in more conventional ways with little emphasis on the application of the information discussed (Vassigh, 2005, 2009). It analyzes the expansion of irrigation investment as well as institutional and technological changes in irrigation policy and development in parallel with policies of liberalization and decentralization in the late 1980s. The chapter also discusses institutional changes in the management of the irrigation systems as a result of (partial) transfer of management of large-scale irrigation systems to a variety of water user organizations. Finally, it describes current technological and institutional problems and the further challenges to the irrigation sector, such as infrastructure deterioration, risks of drought, environmental and ecological system degradation, and insufficient investment. Women entrepreneurs play a critical role in their nations' economies – especially in developing nations. However, the duality of their responsibilities (i.e., work and house domain) can restrain them from prospering in what they do and adversely affect their well-being. Previous studies reveal that, in addition to work-life conflict, factors such as social support, psychological capital, or autonomy impact women entrepreneurs' well-being. Recent research investigated how entrepreneurship serves women at the pyramid's base and framed a model of their well-being. They interviewed women in rural India who engaged in an entrepreneurship program.
